The Cylinders

                                                         The cylinders are steel.

I used a grade of steel which in France is called ‘demi dure’ and I think equates to EN 8.
After several trials the fins were cut using a gang of slitting saws in this rather odd setup.
It was not as rigid as I would have wanted but the gear ratio of the dividing head gave a smooth cut rate and good results. The big rotary table I acquired later would have been better for this job. I had tried cutting the fins with a parting tool in the lathe but the Myford simply did not have the power required to give an acceptable rate of cutting on this material.

The boring of the cylinders was straight forward but laborious.

The cylinder head will screw onto the 40tpi thread at the top of the cylinder.

The engine takes shape on the bench.
